The human growth hormones or HGH are responsible for the optimal height and growth of children. A lack of growth hormones can result in stunted growth and short stature in both men and women.
What is HGH?
HGH is a hormone manufactured by the pituitary glands in the body. The pituitary gland is situated at the skull’s base. This gland is responsible for secreting and releasing these growth hormones into the bloodstream of the body. Once the HGH is released it attaches itself to specific bones and tissues of the child. This is what results in height enhancement in certain individuals. A lack of HGH in a child can translate into a short stature.
Common Symptoms
The condition of adult growth hormone deficiency also known as GHD manifests itself in many forms. Common symptoms of a lack of growth hormones include short stature, slow growth as per the age and stage of puberty, looking younger compared to other persons their age, more fat around the mid section, delayed puberty, slow development of teeth and many other conditions. In adults, a lack of growth hormones leads to reduced muscle mass, gaining weight around the waist region, reduced tolerance towards exercise and reduction in stamina, lack of energy and having dry and thinning skin.
How to Detect GHD
The adult growth hormone deficiency is not easily diagnosed. In adults, GHD occurs because of a pituitary disease when there is an injury to the pituitary gland or if it is damaged. Such pituitary damage can happen because of a tumor, surgery or irradiation of the pituitary gland. If there is a trauma in this region, or an inflammation, that too can contribute to pituitary disease. Typically, the growth hormones circulate in the blood but at times disappear inside tissues. This is why random blood tests for growth hormones may not always reveal pituitary disease. Stimulating the pituitary gland to see if growth hormones are released is the best way to diagnose the condition of pituitary disease. The procedure is known as GH stimulation test.
Treatment Using GH
Pituitary disease conditions are typically treated by small doses of growth hormones. The process is also known as growth hormone replacement therapy and involves using bioidentical growth hormones to help replace the decreased amounts of growth hormones in the body. The growth hormones are administered using syringes and small needles. Once the optimal dose of growth hormones is reached the treatment is discontinued. This is because too much of growth hormones can result in fluid retention, joint and muscle pains, numbness in hands because of carpal tunnel syndrome etc. This is why growth hormone replacement therapy needs consistent and dedicated attention. It needs to be practiced by a qualified center. At Ojas Medical Spa we have extensive experience in the realm of GHD treatment. Our state of the art growth hormone replacement therapy solutions use bioidentical growth hormones instead of synthetic hormones. These work in conjunction with your body and restore it to its natural state, without side effects.
