Hot stone massage is a special kind of therapeutic massage where heated smooth stones are used for relaxation purposes. The common stone used for such a massage is basalt as it absorbs as well as retains heat for a long time. At Ojas Med Spa we provide relaxing, rejuvenating and invigorating hot stone therapeutic massage services.
How is it Performed?
First, we sanitize the stones to be used by heating them in water temperatures as high as 120 or 150 degrees. Then, we relax the client by using Swedish massage techniques with the heated stones. Once each stone starts to cool down, another hot stone takes its place. It is in this manner that our massage therapist performs this therapeutic hot stone massage. The heated stones are placed at strategic points on the client’s body to invigorate the senses and aid energy flow through the energy centers of the body. Typical areas where these heated stones are placed include the spinal column, between toes of the feet as well as, on the palms of the hand. These specific area points are known to calm and relax the body. If the client has a specific muscle injury or inflammation of the skin, our massage therapist will use cold stones instead.
What To Expect
Our center located in the backdrop of scenic Palm Beach in South Florida is the perfect setting for a therapeutic hot stone massage. Our massage therapist has extensive training in administering hot stone massage services. Both hot as well as cold stones maybe used depending on your condition and if you have any muscle injury. The size and shapes of stones may also vary. Heat absorbed by the stones helps relax muscles faster as compared to traditional Swedish massage services. If you find the pressure too much or stones getting too hot you should immediately let our massage therapist know. The technique of hot stone massage is paramount as exerting too much pressure can defeat the whole purpose. Our trained massage therapist knows exactly how much pressure and heat is needed for this therapeutic hot stone massage. It is believed the Native Americans used a version of the hot stone massage to help relax. However, Mary Nelson is known to have revived this massage technique. At Ojas Med Spa our hot stone massage services help invigorate your senses, rejuvenate and relax the body completely. |
